A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase physical activity. The focus of the class is to enhance self-efficacy among older adults to live independently through physical and cognitive changes. This falls prevention exercise program is recommended and approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Format

  • Small group workshop led by a certified instructor
  • 2 hours per session
  • 1 session per week for 8 weeks
  • Workbook and physical instruction involved during every session

Settings

  • Community settings such as senior centers, community centers or a local medical facility

Participants

  • This intervention is recommended for older adults at risk of falls or comorbidities
  • It is preferred for older adults who are at higher risk of falls or who need to rest between periods of physical instruction
  • Older adults who utilize wheelchairs, canes or walkers are welcome
